Venture Capitalist, Wished to Buy Sex.com Instead Buys All Domains From DomainMadness Auction

Please note that the following is a parody intended for April Fools day 2010.

As the DomainMadness2 comes to a close, the extended auction which closes today has been served up a huge boost.  At the start of the day today, venture capitalist Stefan Roegge emailed the DomainMadness team and informed them that he wished to purchase all the domains in the extended auction.

This is just a much better way to invest in domain names. Rather than invest all my eggs in one basket, I can buy a wide variety of names in various niches and classes for less than the cost of 1 domain. This is the perfect opportunity to buy premium domains and jump start a portfolio” wrote Roegge in his email.

Since the domain names are still at auction, the domains have not officially been sold. Bids are still open at  DomainMadness2.com until 3pm today

The live DomainMadness event saw a healthy amount of sales rung up with the CamRoulette.com sold for $151,000 and a total sales volume of over $209,000. The extended auction couldn’t have hoped for better publicity as the auction closes today.

DomainConsultant’s Mike Fiol has contacted us to with the news that the company’s site has recently been relaunched in the form of a blog. The company is most known for their work assisting with the auctions held by DomainTools on the Aftermarket.com platform.

The company has also launched a new domain marketplace, meant for premium domains with little market exposure under the name “One of a Kind“. The domain name OneOfAKind.com sold at the Silent Moniker/SnapNames auction for the Targeted TRAFFIC Conference in New York for $26,000 and was the top sale of the auction.

The latest tool launched by DomainConsultant is DNFame.com, a domain name analytics aggregator with the goal to provide as many relevant statistics for a given domain name as possible. Fiol stated that “This is a tool we built for ourselves that we decided to release to the public.  I don’t know of another public tool that has the number of data points that we do.  If we’re missing something, we’d love to hear other domainers suggestions .”

DomainConsultant.com’s “Domain Madness” auction has come to a close with nearly $150,000 worth of domains being sold - and now it’s time for everybody who participated in the Domain Madness Contest to tally their scores for a chance to win $1000.

Initially, 16 domains met their reserves and were sold at the live event. However, thanks to a new strategy nine more domains were sold during the post auction phase.

“After the auction we raised the prices on the remaining names and would do so at least two more times before it was all said and done,” explained Adam Strong of DomainConsultant.com. “The idea is to de-motivate the cherry-picker, forcing them into earlier decisions or pay more later.

The result is that several names were sold above the reserve in the post auction phase - a first for us and perhaps for the sellers as well. We now intend to make this ‘rising’ scale standard procedure in all upcoming auctions - including the GEO auction to be held at the end of April in San Diego.”

Loco.com (”crazy” in Spanish) was the highest sale, closing at $55,500, ahead of Stenography.com for $15,000, ePills.com for $9000, IceSkating.net for $7000, and Antiseptic.com for $6000.

See the full list of results after the jump, as well as important contest instructions.

Tally Your Domain Madness Score

If you participated in the Domain Madness Contest, click here to download the Official Bracket Sheet and tally your score. A perfect score is 74 - meaning you guessed correctly each name that would and would not sell.

Correct answers are given points based on which bracket they are in and incorrect answers count as zero (no point and no deduction). If you tallied anything above 69 points, contact Domain Consultant to see if you’re eligible for the prize.
